It is important to know that high season lasts from June to August. The waves this season are world famous. There is a party at night. Outside of this season the weather is still great, just no waves and no parties. Which season to go to is up to you. Restaurants and shops keep open from February to October.
- Climb Elephant Rock
Arugam area has many great coves and Elephant Point is one of them. Perched on the edge of this bay, Elephant Rock is the perfect place to wake up and take in the view of the entire area. It’s not easy to get there, but it’s good that it only takes 20 minutes. Enter the main street from Arugam Town and turn left when you see the Navy Camp sign. Go left, follow the road to the next fork and turn right towards a small lake. Turn left in front of the lake and go straight until you reach the end.
A few things to note. It is not recommended to be here alone in the morning or late afternoon as elephants pass through this area. Also, keep away from the river as alligators are very active. Sorry to scare you, but this needs to be said. - Muhudu Maha Viharaya

Arugam Bay is world famous for its high season waves. Some would argue that there is no better place to surf. Big companies like Red Bull hold competitions here. Rent a board in town and explore popular surf spots such as
Baby Point, Main Point, Peanut Farm Beach or Elephant Point. Arugambay’s high season lasts from his June to August.
After surfing, relax at one of the many cafes such as The Hideout and Stay Golden. During high season, the bay also hosts many yoga classes.

- See the fishermen and help them
In low season, fishermen are on Main Beach every morning. Watch them weigh the day’s catch and it goes straight to the restaurant. And help pull the boat on the beach. - Kudumbigala Monastery
A monastery in the middle of the jungle. Sounds good. It takes about 45 minutes to reach the base of the rock from Arugam Bay. The climb isn’t easy, but you can get a great view of the whole area.
