The base of Diyarma Waterfall is an hour from Ella. This 220-meter-high waterfall is his second tallest waterfall in Sri Lanka, with different tiers and a natural pool at the top. The water crashing against the rocks is great to experience on foot, but exploring the summit is new and requires physical fitness to access. It takes 3-6 hours to drive from Ella to Diyarma.

Visit to Diyarma Waterfall
Visiting waterfalls is one of the best things to do in Ella. You can easily reach the base of Diyarma Falls in less than an hour by tuk-tuk, car or motorbike. The last 15 minutes of the drive are uphill and from this point the road is not the best. At the foot of the waterfall:
Cross the bridge and follow the path to the waterfall.

Once you’ve explored your feet, follow the path to Coslanda. Make a sharp right turn (see map) and follow the road for another 15 minutes. Drive another 15 minutes until you reach a fork, turn right here (see map) and ask a local to show you where to park your car.

From the small parking lot, ask a local to guide you to the falls. It is a 2 hour 40 minute hike. A 40 minute walk in tall grass is beautiful.
Note:
Elephants are very active in this area. Do not go alone or go to dark places.

Swim at Diyarma Waterfall
When you reach the first part of the waterfall, you are faced with a series of natural pools where you can swim or jump from one pool to the pool below. (We still can’t get over the fact that nature created this water park).

Further down you’ll face a 220-meter drop with a natural pool at the edge. It is possible to dive near the edge, but be very careful. It’s better to peek at the edge of one of Sri Lanka’s tallest waterfalls and see the bridge that served as the starting point. Bring plenty of water and food as you can easily spend a day at the top of this incredible waterfall.

The area has ample shady spots and friendly young locals also flock here. Be sure to add Diyarma Falls to your Sri Lanka itinerary.
