Mount Bromo sunrise
At midnight, hundreds of jeeps head to King Kong Hill for the best sunrise views of Mount Bromo. The climb starts at 3am and lasts an hour.

Bromo temperature
In Bromo, the mornings are freezing cold. Temperatures range from 0 to 10 degrees Celsius with strong cold winds. Therefore, small fires in stalls are very cozy.
What to wear during Bromo Tour?
Be prepared to wear long pants, socks, closed-toe shoes, a shirt and jacket, or a few sweaters. The good thing is that you can rent jackets at the hotel or at the top of King Kong Hill for ~IDR 30000.
Best Viewpoint Bromo
The best viewpoint is at Gunung Penangjakan. His two popular viewpoints on the mountain are King Kong Hill and Seruni. It will be busy from both vantage points, but there is always a higher, less crowded spot. Go to one of the viewpoints and experience a magical sunrise over Bromo, Mount Batok and Mount Semeru. The temperature rises just after sunrise, so you can take off your jacket or sweater.

Visit to Bromo Crater
Get back in the jeep and prepare to drive up to Bromo his crater. The descent may take a little longer as there are a lot of jeeps and there are frequent traffic jams. If you want to avoid this traffic, leave the sunrise point as early as possible.
Board a jeep and head to the Hindu temple of Ruhul Poten at the foot of Mount Bromo. From right here you need to stroll approximately 10 mins on a dusty avenue to attain the stairs. Please do not bring horses on this short walk. Here animals are not treated well at all.
Tips: Bring a scarf or dust mask for all the dust. you really need this!
About Bromo
A further 10-minute climb takes you to the top where you can admire the crater. Every few minutes, white smoke billows from the volcano’s crater. Walk along the crater rim to a quieter spot. How to reach Bromo?
Plan your day in Bromo. Admission is IDR 215,000 on weekdays and IDR 315,000 on weekends.
A visit to Bromo can be done from these three locations:
- Malang
- Cemoro Lawang
- Probolingo
It will help you find out which of the three cities you would like to stay near Bromo and where you want to go after that. Bromo Tour
The easiest and probably the best way to visit Bromo is to take a tour. 4×4 jeep tour from Malang to Bromo & Ijen crater is the most popular way. En route, visit the Coban Pelangi Waterfall and pass through the Vegetable Mountain Range (Ngadas Village).
Travel through savannah and sandy seas to Cemoro Lawang, a village near Bromo. Don’t forget to take cool photos with the Jeep. The next morning, follow this tour of the aforementioned sunrise Bromo tour.

Visit Bromo without a guided tour
Traveling on a limited budget? Bromo National Park can be visited without organized or private tours. The best way is to take a local bus from Probolinggo to Semoro Lawang. Journey time is approximately 90 minutes.
Please note that there is an additional IDR 10,000 entrance fee for Cemoro Lawang.
Hotel
Plan your stay in a guest house or hotel. The village is dedicated to accommodating visitors, so you should always be able to find a spot. Don’t expect hot water at your homestay. In the morning, hop on the back of your bike and head to the observatory.
