Expect everything from majestic waterfalls to tropical islands, volcanoes and Bali’s lush rice paddies. In order to have an epic trip in Bali, you need to check if you need a visa before entering the country and how to get a Bali visa. There are different types of tourist visas in Indonesia and you need to choose the right one depending on the length of your stay in Bali or other parts of Indonesia.
Note: This guide applies to all of Indonesia, not just Bali.
Which Bali visa is correct for you?
To know which Bali visa is right for you, you need to check the length of your stay. Here are the main available options for tourists visiting Bali:
1. Visa on arrival in Bali (up to 60 days)
For stays longer than 30 days, purchase an Indonesian Visa on Arrival (VOA) upon arrival at Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport. Over 80 nationalities can apply for a VOA. A VOA is valid for 30 days and can be extended for an additional 30 days in Indonesia (60 days total). The visa cost is US$35 in cash. This he can pay in IDR, EUR, AUD and USD.
Free entry to Bali
Some countries are exempt from VOA and can enter for free (up to 30 days). these are:
- Brunei
- Philippines
- Myanmar
- Vietnam
- Cambodia
- Singapore
- Malaysia
- Thailand
- Laos
2. Visa B211A (great for digital nomads!)
Bali currently has a B211A visa ideal for digital nomads who want to stay in Bali for more than 60 days. This is also a great option for countries not on the VOA list.
Information on the B211A
- B211A is valid for 60 days, but can be extended twice (60 days each). This means you can stay in Bali for up to 180 days (6 months). Please be careful: To extend, you need to make an appointment with the nearest immigration office to get your photo and fingerprints.
- Choose between Onshore B211A (apply while in Bali) or Offshore B211A (apply before arrival).
- B211A is only entry. This means that once you leave Bali, your visa will automatically expire.
- Once your visa is approved, you can enter Bali for up to 90 days.
Tips: If you enter on a VOA, you will not be able to apply for an onshore B211A visa thereafter.
Bali B211A visa cost
Prices may vary depending on the agency you use to pick up your B211A. Typically, the cost is US$270-300. In the past (before this visa became available) digital nomads had to obtain a visa and purchase expensive flights and hotels to extend their stay in Bali. This visa seems expensive, but it’s actually a good deal because you don’t need to run for a visa!
