How long does it take to climb Pidurangala Rock?
The trek begins with crossing the enchanting White Temple. Pay $3 admission and receive a complimentary scarf to cover your shoulders and legs if desired. After passing the temple, you can remove the scarf.

It’s a moderate hike of 30-40 minutes to the summit, with some boulder climbing at the end, which can be a bit challenging. Take some time to see the reclining Buddha and beautiful murals along the way.

How to get to Pidurangala Rock The entrance to
Pidurangala Rock is about 2 km north of Lion Rock. If you are staying in Sigiriya town, it is a short drive to the base of the rock. Alternatively, many travelers spend the night in Dambulla, a 30-minute tuk-tuk ride to Sigiriya.

Sunrise or Sunset Hike

The entrance fee to Pidurangala Rock is LKR 500 (USD 3) per person. This fee serves as a donation for passing through the temple. Ticket sales hours at the office are from 5am to 6pm. Hours of operation are not strict, but donations are encouraged. Super cheap and worth it!

Note:
Drones are not allowed in this area. Sigiriya Rock has bees that become aggressive when they hear drone sounds.

Accommodation in Sigiriya
There are two options for accommodation in Sigiriya. Dambulla is 30 minutes away but has more accommodation in all price ranges. Most accommodation in Sigiriya is a bit pricey, but you can enjoy the stunning views of the area and make the most of it. Some hotels even allow you to see the rock itself directly from your room.

Best time to go
Hiking the Pidurangala Rocks in wet weather can be dangerous. Please be aware of the weather. The best time to visit the area is from December to April, when the days are dry and the sunrises are most visible.
