Day 1 – Waterfalls, Mountain Farms and Savannah
The drive from Malang to Chemoro Lawang (Bromo village) is 2 hours by 4×4 jeep. A 4WD vehicle is required as there is a lot of climbing towards Ngadas village. Just before entering the Ngadas region, you can visit the Coban Pelangi Waterfalls.
You can either see it from the vantage point (5-minute walk, IDR 10000) or feel the force at the base of the waterfall (free). It’s a 15 minute walk on a well paved road, not too difficult.
This 3-day Bromo and Ijen tour route starts from Malang, but you can also go the other way from Ijen, Bali. Ngadas village is a vegetable production area (farm) on a steep hill. Not many foreign tourists pass this route as it is not a known way to follow Bromo and Ijen tours.
After passing Ngadas, the trail begins descending into the flat savannah around Bromo. Day 2 – Bromo Sunrise
Go to bed early on the first day and set your alarm clock 2:45 am or 3:00 am, travel by jeep to one of the viewpoints overlooking Mount Bromo. Then visit a real crater and see inside an active volcano.
On the same day, head to Ijen, stopping at its second highest waterfall in Indonesia that is Madakaripura Waterfall. Water will run down from all sides, so you and your camera will get wet. Not to worry, you can find rain jacket on enterance. Journey time from Bromo to Ijen he is 4 hours.
Day 3 – Sunrise at Ijen
Excursions to Ijen Crater Lake must start at 2:00 AM to experience the ‘Blue Fire’ or 4:00 AM to experience the sunrise over the lake.
